You may be asking, what do you mean debut gin? Well, up until the end of 2023 all gin’s crafted had be a collaboration by co-founders Amy and Gavin Shaw. Amy’s Navy Strength Gin was the first gin Amy formulated the recipe on her own.
“I had always known my debut gin would be a navy but deciding on what botanicals to distill and finalising the release was a nine month process. I love citrus and from my research I knew grapefruit would be the perfect citrus botanical for what what I looking to achieve. Vanilla pod was added to cut through the sharpness of the grapefruit and a heavy dose of juniper”.
Amy’s Navy Strength Gin also includes coriander seeds, cassia sticks, angelica root, lemon myrtle, anise myrtle.
Best ways to enjoy Amy's Navy Strength
A navy gin is a great addition to any gin cocktail recipes as it’s higher ABV it is able to maintain it’s gin character even in small amounts. Also the higher ABV means the gin maintains more of the essential oils from the distillation making it perfect gin for a cocktail. If you like to keep things simple, enjoy some over ice with a twist it is just as satisfying.
The gin martini is the quintessential cocktail to be made with a navy gin. To make the perfect martini use 3 parts Amy’s Navy Strength Gin to 1 part dry vermouth. Garnish with a twist to enhance the citrus notes of the grapefruit.
Also try in a Wet Martini cocktail with a 50:50 gin:vermouth ratio.
Ingredients
45ml Amy’s Navy Strength Gin, 15ml Fresh lime juice, 10ml Sugar syrup (if you like it sweet add 15ml), 60ml Ginger beer, 10 mint leaves, Extra mint leaves and lime wedges to garnish
Method
1. Add mint leaves, sugar syrup and lime juice to a cocktail shaker and lightly muddle together.
2. Add the gin and some ice to the shaker and shake for 10-15 seconds.
3. Strain into a glass filled with ice.
4. Pour in ginger beer and stir to combine.
5. Garnish with mint leaves and lime wedges.
Ingredients
45ml Amy’s Navy Strength Gin, 30ml Fresh lime juice, 22ml Sugar syrup, 8-10 Fresh mint leaves, Optional 2 dashes of Angostura bitters, Mint leaf for garnish
Method
1. To a cocktail shaker with ice add all your ingredients and shake for up to 20 seconds.
2. Strain into a chilled coupe glass, try a double strain if you get any mint leaves the first time.
3. Garnish with mint leaf.
